Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height consisting of a blue benzene ring enclosing a gold background bearing a black demi-soldier all superimposed upon a gold axe-head, blade up and overall at bottom a black bipartite stacked scroll doubled and inscribed "CUM SCIENTIA DEFENDIMUS" in gold.

Symbolism
The benzene ring is adapted from the United States Army Chemical Corps insignia of branch; the demi-soldier and axe-head are from the insignia of the former United States Army Soldier Systems Command. The translation of the motto is "With Science, We Defend."

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 31 Aug 1998.
